Marco Odermatt won the first men's World Cup Alpine skiing downhill after the Milano Cortina Olympics.

He led a Swiss one-two-three in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday.

What happened?

Odermatt failed to win gold at this month's Games in Italy, taking two silvers and a bronze.

He was immediately back on top of a podium that surprisingly did not feature compatriot and triple gold medallist Franjo von Allmen.

Alexis Monney was second, 0.04 seconds slower, and Stefan Rogentin third in warm conditions.

Why it matters for Marco Odermatt

Odermatt increased his advantage in the downhill standings to 175 points over Von Allmen.

He is a massive 687 points clear of Norwegian-born Brazilian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen in the overall World Cup.

"I was really relaxed and happy to ski today," said Odermatt, now winner of four of seven downhills this season.

What comes next?

The men also have a super-G on Sunday.

Odermatt's win marks a significant return to form after the Olympics.

He likes these conditions when the atmosphere is a little bit more relaxed.

It's a tough downhill, difficult with the snow, also with the warm temperature.

To get the race tension is not easy for him today.

Odermatt's performance has solidified his position as a leader in the World Cup.

He will look to continue this form in the upcoming events.

The Swiss team's dominance in the downhill event is a testament to their skill and training.

Odermatt's win is a significant milestone in his career, and he will look to build on this success.
